The idea to prepone timings of the game from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) had not come good to few franchises of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2018). However, a couple of franchises have now decided to back the board’s proposal.

It clearly means that they are supporting the board’s move to change the timings of the match, as per Mirror.

As per the new decision of BCCI, the evening matches will now be played from 5:30 PM while the night games will start at 7:00 PM.

The main reason for franchises opposing the move is that on weekends, when there is a double-header.

Viewers won’t be able to watch a portion of one of the two matches due to overlapping timings of the game.

An evening game will normally end nearly at 9:00 PM while night game would end at 10:30 PM, which will automatically divert the traffic of both the games.

BCCI has taken a note of the points raised by the franchises and the board is looking at the ways to solve the issue.

While most franchises are against this idea, Kolkata Knight Riders and Rajasthan Royals seem to be happy with it. They believe that night games have to lot of issues.

In fact, Ranjit Balthakur, CEO of Rajasthan Royals, also floated a new idea and had even suggested of organizing breakfast games:

“We would prefer an early finish. In Jaipur, people tend to sleep early. If there are no doubleheaders, we are comfortable. In fact, I have suggested that on weekends, instead of evening games, we can have breakfast games,” Balthakur told The Mirror.

Surely, the decision of BCCI to prepone the timing of the night game seems to be a great one in IPL 2018.

However, as said by the franchises, they will have to deal with a lot of difficulties on the days of double-headers, which are usually played on weekends.

One of the ways which BCCI can opt for is to set different timings for weekdays and weekend games, which will be a first in the history of IPL if it happens.

The board will announce a final decision on the matter in days to come.

New season commences in April:

The 11th edition of Indian Premier League (IPL) is all set to kick off on April 7, with the first game to be played at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.

Defending champions, Mumbai Indians will be playing the first game of the season.

Prior to the start of the T20 league, a mega opening ceremony will also take place in Mumbai. Unlike last year, BCCI will conduct only one opening ceremony.

In the previous year, a total of eight opening ceremonies took place with each time hosting one opening ceremony to celebrate the 10th edition of IPL.
