After much speculation that either Robin Uthappa or Australian batsman Chris Lynn would lead Knight Riders, the management chose Indian wicketkeeper Dinesh Karthik as the captain of the team.

Uthappa was being considered as the most likely option for the captaincy post as he has been part of the franchise for the last four seasons.

KKR is a very famous franchise in the IPL, and partial credit for the popularity should be given to their ‘Superstar’ owner Shahrukh Khan.

Khan has impeccable popularity in the country, and his fans automatic choice of following a team is his team.

A day after the management appointed Karthik as their captain, ‘SRK’ as he is famously known, took to Twitter to welcome his new captain.

The Bollywood actor wrote on his Twitter account, “As we stand poised for a new season of KKR we welcome @DineshKarthik as our Captain. Like our Captains over the yrs we know u will also lead us by boosting the self-esteem & dignity of all of us.”

In another developing news about the actor/owner, the Bollywood star will be missing from the stands in the next season of the Indian Premier League. He is expected to be in the US for shooting of his next movie.
