Former Indian Cricket team skipper, Sunil Gavaskar feels that Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) batsmen need to step up to the occasion as this edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) is approaching to its business end.

Although Hyderabad is sitting pretty at the top of the ladder, their batsmen have very little contributions on an offer. It is mainly because of their bowlers, they found success in the eleventh season of the lucrative league.

Meanwhile, apart from skipper Kane Williamson, no other batsmen have had any significant contribution. The likes of Shikhar Dhawan and Manish Pandey had a topsy-turvy season so far. They need to cash in these dying moments of this league.

Batsmen need to make a meaningful contribution –

Gavaskar feels that batsmen need to make significant contributions and called out the manner in which they got out.

The former batting great Gavaskar also urged them to follow their skipper and look for the fifties.

While their bowlers have raised the bar with every game, the batsmen, apart from Kane Williamson, need to make a more meaningful contribution,” Gavaskar wrote in his column for TOI.

Some of the shots which they are getting out to are disappointing to say the least. They simply have to keep going after getting starts and play more overs. They must also follow the example of their skipper who gets 50s rather than the attractive 20s that doesn’t really help the team,” he added.

Gavaskar further elaborated their batting problems and admitted that they should give their bowlers atleast 180 to bowl at.

Meanwhile, SRH squares off against Delhi Daredevils (DD) in the return leg at the Feroz Shah Kotla on May 10 (Thursday).

Daredevils camp need their foreigners to come good. Sunil Gavaskar maintained that the Daredevils have struggled because of the overseas players.

Hyderabad’s batters are yet to make a mark in this league and will look to find their form in this game.

Daredevils are getting swashbuckling starts from young Prithvi Shaw and skipper Shreyas Iyer is enjoying the responsibility without losing his batting touch. They know it’s a must-win game for them and will be hoping that their overseas players to do more. Rishabh Pant is also batting superbly, so the batting line-up is being buoyed by the Indians, which is always a good sign,” Gavaskar concluded.
