IPL 2018: Twitter Reacts As Mumbai Indians Thrash Kolkata Knight Riders
Updated - 10 May 2018, 01:30 AM
Continuing their domination over Kolkata Knight Riders, Mumbai Indians thrashed the two-time champions by a huge margin of 102 runs at the Eden Gardens. This was Mumbai’s eighth consecutive win over Kolkata in the IPL.
Knight Riders faced an upheaval task with the bat, needing to chase down a huge 210. And it looked all but over at the halfway stage when they were 72 for 6 in ten overs.
Sunil Narine was promoted in the batting order once again but failed to fire, departing after scoring just 4. Kolkata’s hopes of getting a good platform then took another blow when Chris Lynn was run out for 21. Robin Uthappa and Andre Russell also failed to get going as Kolkata were reduced to 54 for 4. Dinesh Karthik and Nitish Rana then departed off successive balls to leave their side reeling at 67 for 6. Wickets kept on falling at regular intervals. The lower-order tried to delay the inevitable for a while before the hosts were bundled up for a paltry 108.
Earlier in the innings, Ishan Kishan’s whirlwind half-century propelled Mumbai Indians to a massive 210 for 6 in the allotted 20 overs. The southpaw scored to guide the defending champions to the huge total.
Asked to bat first, the visitors were off to a decent start with Suryakumar Yadav and Evin Lewis adding 46 runs for the first wicket. The Knight Riders sent back both the openers in quick succession but Ishan and Rohit Sharma did not let the hosts capitalise on it. The duo added 82 runs for the third wicket to lay the foundation for a huge total. The wicketkeeper-batsman reached his fifty off just 17 balls. Ishan took a liking for Kuldeep Yadav’s bowling, hitting him for four successive sixes.
Towards the end, Ben Cutting played the perfect cameo to help Mumbai finish off strongly. The Australian scored a 9-ball 24 to give the finishing touch.
Here is how Twitter reacted to the match:
Before this match, KKR had played MI 22 times in the IPL — and lost 17 times. Suggests mental hurdle tho why it should be so is not known

Ishan's knock will change the course of the IPL season at least if it doesn't change the course of humanity on the planet. #IPL

Usha Uthup has been invited to watch the match so that even if KKR play poorly and lose, there is never complete silence in the ground.

RCB and KKR have only one difference. RCB phele hi bata deti he ki humse nahi hona. KKR dhire dhire jaan leke ye baat bolegi. #KKRvMI

Hardik and black magic 🙂 Getting de Villiers and Russell with ordinary deliveries.

Hardik tries everything, which works in the shortest format.

Didn’t bat in the last game, asked to float in early today.. Up against one of the best spin attacks in a must win game – Ishan Kishan’s knock today was as good as it gets. In a line up full of superstars, the kid stole the show! ???? #KKRvMI

Ishan Kishan's 17-ball fifty is the joint fastest fifty by anyone for Mumbai Indians in the IPL.
Kieron Pollard also scored a 17-ball fifty vs KKR in 2016. #IPL2018 #KKRvMI— Sampath Bandarupalli (@SampathStats) May 9, 2018
MI management should get as much credit for this as Ishan Kishan gets. RCB would have dropped him by now for Aditya Tare.

22 runs from the final over. KKR are too funky for their own liking. They don't make sense whatever research and top brains they seem to have.

Cricket apart, the umpiring standards have always been poor in the IPL! Need to do something about it or bring the elite umpires! @IPL #SelectDugout #KKRvMI

If there's an obviously wrong no-ball call by the on-field umpire, the 3rd ump should have the power to intervene (just as he does when checking for no balls at the time of a dismissal). #IPL #KKRvMI
