In this year’s auction, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) had gone all out to bolster their bowling attack after a disastrous last season.

Despite boasting some of the best batsmen in their side, they finished at the bottom with just three wins in 14 games in the tenth edition in 2017.

Well, this time around they bought the likes of Chris Woakes, Umesh Yadav, Washington Sundar, Moeen Ali, and others to add teeth to their attack.

However, the ongoing season is not very much different from the previous one. The Virat Kohli-led side now needs some divine intervention to make it to the playoffs.

Even having one of the most balanced sides in the league, the three-time finalists could not quite deliver consistently.

On Monday (May 7), they suffered their seventh defeat in ten games. It looked like the Royal Challengers would win the game against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) but ended up losing it by just five runs.

Chasing a modest 147, the Royal Challengers were off to a quick but shaky start. Parthiv Patel, fresh off his fifty in the last game, raced away to 20 off just 12 balls before being sent packing by Shakib Al Hasan.

However, Manan Vohra and Kohli did not let the hosts capitalise on the early breakthrough. The duo took the score to 55 for one at the end of the powerplay.

With the match fast drifting away from Hyderabad, Sandeep Sharma gave them some hope by dismissing Vohra. Shakib then dismissed Kohli soon to reduce the visitors to 74 for three.

Interestingly, six runs later, Rashid Khan accounted for AB de Villiers to put the hosts well on top.

The downward slide continued as Moeen Ali failed too, leaving his side reeling at 84 for five. Colin de Grandhomme and Mandeep Singh then stopped the rot, taking the score past the 100-run mark.

The duo went on to stay till the end but could not score the required 12 runs in the last over as the visitors were restricted to 141 for six.

As of now, they are sixth in the table with just three victories.  But despite the disastrous season so far, Kohli posted a heartwarming message for his teammates on Tuesday.

Kohli took to Instagram to post a picture of his Royal Challengers Bangalore teammates in a huddle:

“Win or lose, We stick together!”
