The first week of the Indian Premier League (IPL) is done and dusted now. On the very expected lines, the league lived up to the expectations. World class displays with both bat and ball, Mankad controversy, super-over – the first week saw it all. Each team has now played at least three games so far and there are some players who have failed to deliver on the expected lines.  So through this article, we take a look at the five players who should be dropped from their respective teams due to their poor performances.

5. Shimron Hetmyer:

During the auctions it was thought that RCB had the smartest buy by picking up teenage star Shimron Hetmyer. But it turned out to be one of the worst deals so far this season. Hetmyer has delivered scores in single digits- 0,5,9,1. RCB has already lost four out of four matches and the onus is now on the foreign players to deliver. Not only his batting performance has been horrible, he was also replaced from keeping the wickets in fourth match by Akshdeep Nath.

4. Kieron Pollard:

The Mumbai Indians camp might be scratching their heads for their decision to retain Kieron Pollard. The allrounder from the Caribbean has disappointed in every department and this is reflected by his numbers. Pollard who generally bowls a couple of overs has not got a ball to bowl this season so far. In the batting department, Pollard has been horrific in the 3 matches he played. He scored just 33 runs at an average of 11.00 with a below-par strike rate according to his standards.

3. Shardul Thakur:

Shardul Thakur was bought by Chennai Super Kings last year and was retained for this season. CSK’s successful stint and Thakur’s average season in 2018 helped him to remain in the Yellow Camp once again under the leadership of MS Dhoni. However, Thakur didn’t have a great start to this season. He has the worst numbers among all CSK players who have bowled so far. Thakur’s economy rate is 10.16 which is on the higher side. As CSK has been successful in all matches they have played till now, Thakur’s performance has not been taken the spotlight. However, it would not be at all surprising, if he loses his spot.

2. Jaydev Unadkat:

The left arm pacer, who was bought for a whopping price of 8.40 crore INR,  has not justified his price so far. Unadkat had been successful just twice in 3 matches this season and is averaging over 62. His worst performance came against the Chennai Super Kings when he went for 54 runs in his quota of 4 overs. He has already been dropped from the fourth match and was replaced by Stuart Binny.

1. Sidhharth Kaul:

The fast bowler from Sunrisers Hyderabad has had a bad start to this year’s IPL. Kaul has bagged just one wicket in the three matches he has played so far. His below-par performance had been overshadowed by the success of his teammates. Though he has the experience on his side, it will not be a surprise if he gets replaced by Khaleel Ahmed or Basil Thampi in upcoming matches.
