Delhi Capitals’ (DC) winning streak finally came to an end as they lost to Mumbai Indians (MI) by 40 runs at the Feroz Shah Kotla to slip down to the third spot in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL). Despite their loss, Delhi spinner Amit Mishra entered into the record books for achieving a unique landmark.

Meanwhile, chasing 168 runs, Delhi Capitals succumbed to pressure after a good opening stand. Prithvi Shaw and Shikhar Dhawan added 49 runs for the first wicket in the powerplays. But once Rahul Chahar got to dismantle the timer of Dhawan, the host failed to offer any resistance. Chahar added two more to his tally while Krunal Pandy got the better of dangerous looking Colin Ingram to rout Delhi Capitals out of the game.

Mumbai jumps to the second spot

Struggling at 63 for four, all eyes were on Rishabh Pant who failed to confirm a berth for the World Cup. But Jasprit Bumrah got the better of Pant this time to have Delhi Capitals at 76 for five. Notably, Pant took Bumrah for cleaners in the first leg at the Wankhede Stadium and it was Bumrah’s payback this time around. The suit followed as the hosts could only manage 128 runs for their quota of 20 overs.

Mishra achieves rare feat

It was the first delivery after the powerplays and Mishra bowled an absolute peach of a delivery. The ball pitched on middle and leg, Rohit was waiting on the back foot and misjudged the length. It also stayed low and spun sharply to make it difficult for the Mumbai Indians captain as he was rooted to the crease only to knock off his middle-stump.

With the dismissal of Rohit Sharma, Amit Mishra became the first Indian bowler to scalp 150 wickets in the history of IPL. Also, he is the second bowler overall to achieve this feat after Mumbai’s Lasith Malinga who has 162 wickets to his name.

The wicket of Rohit dried up the runs for Mumbai as Delhi Capitals made a superb comeback to contain runs in the middle over. However, a late carnage for Hardik Pandya and Krunal Pandya they go past 150-run mark at the end of 20 overs.

Meanwhile, with this win, Mumbai Indians leapfrogged Delhi Capitals to sit on the second spot with 12 points.
