Former South African opening batsman Herschelle Gibbs has expressed his eagerness to join the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) team as the head coach for the next season of the Indian Premier League (IPL). Meanwhile, it’s all over for the Bangalore franchise as the finish the ongoing IPL at the bottom of the table. However, on their way out, Virat Kohli & Co have spoiled the party of Sunrisers Hyderabad beating them in the last league game.

Bangalore finish on a winning note

Chasing 176, Royal Challengers Bangalore got off to a worst possible start as they were 20 for three within three overs. Parthiv Patel, Virat Kohli, and AB de Villiers were already back in the hut, and they were striving for another defeat. But Shimron Hetmyer and Gurkeerat Singh Mann shared a match-winning stand 114 runs to seal the victory. Although Hetmyer and Gurkeerat both got out, Umesh Yadav ensured they go home safely to finish the campaign on a high.

Previously, Sunrisers Hyderabad managed to post 175 runs banking on skipper Kane Williamson half-century. Williamson chipped in with an unbeaten 70 off 43 deliveries, and significant contributions from Martin Guptill and Vijay Shankar helped them cross 150-run mark despite a collapse in the lower middle order. Washington Sundar who came in the playing XI in later stages returned with three wickets to contain Sunrisers Hyderabad to below par target.

Following their win, Royal Challengers Bangalore from their official Twitter handle thanked their fans for their uncompromising support. The fans turned up in huge number to cheer for their favourite team despite having a dismal run.

“Chinnaswamy & Bengaluru: THANK YOU. You Challengers give us goosebumps. Neev illa andhre, naavu yenu alla. Without you guys, we’re nothing,” Bangalore wrote.

Meanwhile, following their another poor run, former Proteas player Herschelle Gibbs thought that the franchise would be on a lookout for a new coach to replace Gary Kirsten. Gibbs, who won the IPL 2019 with the Deccan Chargers made an immediate response that he is willing to take up the head coach’s role.
