IPL 2019: Ravichandran Ashwin Called Me and Welcomed To Kings XI Punjab - Varun Chakaravarthy

The latest entrant to the rag to riches tales, Varun Chakaravarthy is all excited to don the Kings XI Punjab Jersey under Ravichandran Ashwin captaincy. The flamboyant youngster from Tamil Nadu has been the headliner on the other day when Kings XI Punjab bagged him for a massive bid of INR 8.4 Crores.

The 27-year-old became the joint most expensive buy, along with Jaydev Unadkat at the Indian Premier League Players’ 2019 Auction in Jaipur. Varun, who entered the IPL auction at a base price of Rs. 20 lakh, was bought by Kings XI Punjab for Rs 8.40 crore, 42 times his base price.

Meanwhile, the youngster revealed that he had received a call from Ashwin after bagging the deal in the auction pool. Further, Varun quoted that he is pretty much excited to share the dressing room with Ashwin and learn a lot from him.

He went on to add saying that he would like to watch Anil Kumble videos a lot. He wants to get the control of Anil Kumble while bowling. Varun Chakaravarty wants to meet Anil Kumble in the near future, if possible.

“The moment I was hugging my father, Ashwin called me. He said, ‘Welcome to KXIP. I am really happy for you. We will meet soon. All the best.’ I am excited to play under Ashwin’s leadership. We are from the same state and he will be my captain in the IPL. He is such a talented and great player. I am looking forward to a great season. Ashwin has an abundance of experience. He has played all formats of the game. I will learn a lot from him,” he was quoted as saying by TOI.

“I watch his videos daily. I watch him very closely. His control over line and length is amazing. He bamboozled many batsmen in his playing days. He is an enigma with the ball. Watching his videos helps me a lot on the cricket field. I have never met Anil Kumble, but I hope the IPL will give me a chance to meet the legend. TNPL gave me a platform and IPL has recognition. TNPL gave me huge exposure. I learnt how to bowl in death overs and under pressure.” Varun stated.

Well, it would be interesting to see how things would pan out for the youngster. There have been many cases, where a certain player failing to make things happen despite acquiring a pricey tag. Hopefully, the youngster would see right side of things.
