The Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) has quashed rumours of AB de Villiers replacing Virat Kohli as the captain of the side for IPL 2019. There were reports doing the rounds that the former Proteas captain will take over the captaincy bridle from Virat Kohli. The Bangalore franchise is yet to savour success in the folklore of the Indian Premier League.

In fact, the RCB has already altered its team management. Gary Kirsten has replaced Daniel Vettori as the head coach whereas Trent Woodhill and Andrew McDonald have also been shown the exit doors. Meanwhile, Ashish Nehra will continue with his bowling coach role.

Virat Kohli will continue as RCB captain.

Thus, there were reports that RCB is contemplating a change in the leadership role of the side. However, the RCB spokesperson has cleared the air.

“We can clarify on record that the news is incorrect and Virat Kohli is very much the captain of RCB for the next season as well,” a team spokesperson told India Today.

Meanwhile, the Royal Challengers Bangalore performance in the last two seasons has been disappointing. They were at the bottom of the points table in 2017 season whereas finished at the sixth in the previous edition of 2018. However, they had ended up as the runners-up in 2016 season.

In fact, the Royal Challengers Bangalore franchise has ended as the second best team on three occasions. Therefore, it has been a disappointing journey for them to not go all the way in the Twenty20 league.

Meanwhile, both AB de Villiers and Virat Kohli are two imperative cogs in the franchise wheel. Both the talisman batsmen have been instrumental in the success of the side. The right-handers have also shared some great partnerships and share a great bonhomie with each other.

The Bangalore side will like to put a better performance in the IPL 2019. In fact, the side is always overloaded with star-studded players, however, they haven’t been able to put the desired performances. The team bowling line-up was their Achilles Heel in the previous season.
