Following the World Cup snub, Ambati Rayudu had left many baffled with his cryptic tweet. The right-handed batsman was a surprising omission from India’s 15-man squad for the World Cup and he did not take the decision kindly.  Rayudu was looking set to make it to the World Cup after being recalled to the ODI team during the last year’s Asia Cup. He had hit the ground running. He started off with a 60 against Hong Kong, followed by a couple of not-outs and a fifty against Afghanistan which resulted in a tie. His successful stint in the Asia Cup awarded him another chance in the West Indies series.

Rayudu scored 217 runs in 4 innings in the series which included a 100 and 73*. The best of Rayudu was yet to come. He played a match-winning inning of 90 on a tricky pitch of Wellington in the New Zealand series that followed. His matured innings got praised by skipper Virat Kohli who hinted that the headache for number four is finally over. It was assumed that Ambati Rayudu could be flying to England the coming summer.

However, his performance against Australia at home perhaps made the selectors drop him from the squad. Rayudu managed to score just 33 runs in the three matches he played before being dropped. His poor form coincided with the impressive form of Vijay Shankar and the latter made it to the World Cup.

Explaining the selection, chief selector MSK Prasad had cited Shankar’s “three-dimensional qualities”.

Rayudu had then taken a dig at Prasad’s explanation by tweeting that he plans to buy 3D glasses to watch the World Cup.

Ever since then, the term ‘three-dimensional’ has become a famous one.  And the latest to use it is Royal Challengers Bangalore’s official Twitter handle. On Sunday, the Royal Challengers’ official handle on Twitter took a swipe at Rayudu after his fielding effort for Chennai Super Kings. On the second delivery of the over, Rayudu saved the ball from going to the boundary and then fired the throw back at the bowler’s end, hitting the stumps direct. However the runner, Akshdeep Nath was inside his crease.

And Royal Challengers’ soon took a dig at Rayudu, writing:

“Oof. What a throw from the boundary by Rayudu. But Aksh was in. Don’t need 3D glasses to see that.”

Coming to the game, Royal Challengers beat Chennai Super Kings by 1 run to keep their slim playoff hopes alive.
