IPL 2019: Zaheer Khan Set to Join MI as Coach, Lasith Malinga to go Back in Auction
Former Indian fast bowler Zaheer Khan is all set to join Mumbai Indians as a bowling coach. The former southpaw pacer had played for the Mumbai franchise for three seasons. Thus, he is going to return to the franchise as a mentor for the upcoming season of the Twenty20 league. Zaheer Khan had led Delhi Daredevils in the season of 2016 and 2017.
Meanwhile, Zaheer Khan is set to replace Lasith Malinga as the mentor of the side. Malinga was not retained by Mumbai Indians in the previous season and thus he was handed over the coaching role. However, Malinga is going to be available for next IPL auction.
Zaheer and Malinga had played together for Mumbai.
Zaheer Khan is all set to join Mumbai Indians as the coach of the franchise, as per the reports of Mumbai Mirror. Lasith Malinga has returned to International cricket in style as he has had an emphatic comeback to the game. He was impressive in the Asia Cup and also the ODIs against England.
Thus, Malinga wants to test himself as a player before the World Cup. The talisman fast bowler wants to play in the IPL and thus will make the cut into the auction.
“It is expected. Malinga has been playing other leagues of the world. He had even played for Sri Lanka in the Asia Cup, and he wants to test himself in the IPL which precedes the World Cup. He wants to play in the IPL to be match-fit for the World Cup,” said an IPL insider as Mumbai Mirror.
Zaheer Khan has all the experience in the world and would be a perfect replacement for Lasith Malinga. On the other hand, Malinga will like to make the most of his opportunity in the IPL. There is no denying the fact Malinga is going to be crucial for Sri Lanka in the World Cup.
