Australian limited-overs leg-spinner Adam Zampa will play in the upcoming edition of IPL and will be for the first time since 2017. Adam Zampa will turn up for Virat Kohli’s Royal Challengers Bangalore, having replaced his countryman Kane Richardson at the last hour. The leggie is keen to join forces with Yuzvendra Chahal and witness his captain and AB De Villiers train.

Adam Zampa is currently in England, taking part in the limited-overs series. Zampa’s performances were mediocre in the T20 leg; however, redeemed himself in the ongoing ODI series, picking up seven wickets in two games so far with one to go. It is worth shedding light into the fact that the 27-year old holds the record for the best bowling figures by a spinner in IPL. He took 4-0-19-6 for the Rising Pune Supergiants in 2016 against Sunrisers Hyderabad.
According to Adam Zampa, it is a fantastic opportunity to bowl alongside Yuzvendra Chahal and could deliver in death overs, considering the team structure. It was Mike Hesson’s idea to rope in Adam Zampa for seamer Kane Richardson, given the spin-friendly conditions in the UAE.
“I’ve got a really good opportunity coming up at the IPL where I can bowl with [Yuzvendra] Chahal at RCB [Royal Challengers Bangalore] and I might get the opportunity to bowl those later overs because of the way the team is structured,” Zampa stated as quoted by India Today.
“I really like working with legspinners” : Adam Zampa
Zampa revealed that he relishes the prospect of working with wrist spinners and would enjoy playing with Chahal, having room to learn from each other. He added that Kohli and De Villiers are two of the most exciting cricketers and is delighted to play and train with them.
“I really like working with legspinners so Chahal’s gonna be the one I would really enjoy playing with him. It’s always fun. It’s not only that we have similar traits but also we might learn a lot from each other. Then there’s AB de Villiers and Virat Kohli. Would be fun watching then train and play with them. So, yeah, it’s pretty exciting,” he added.
