Delhi Capitals star batter Ajinkya Rahane believes that his side has to stay positive after suffering three consecutive losses in IPL 2020. Delhi will take on table leaders Mumbai Indians (MI) in an important clash on Saturday afternoon in Dubai.

Delhi Capitals were high-flying till about a couple of weeks ago with 7 wins in 9 matches. However, the form of the team slumped collectively, and are now on a three-match losing streak. Not only they are yet to qualify for the playoffs, mathematically Delhi can still be ousted from the top four. They currently sit at the third spot with 14 points.

Three losses don’t make us a bad team: Ajinkya Rahane

Ajinkya Rahane ahead of Delhi’s game against Mumbai acknowledged the fact that his team hasn’t played according to how they wanted in their last three games. He said that in a long tournament like the IPL, you are bound to lose some.

However, Rahane believes that three losses doesn’t make them a bad team and feels it is important to stay positive. The right-hander asserts that they need to play to their strengths and back every individual.

During the pre-match press conference, Ajinkya Rahane said, “I think we started off really well, won seven out of nine games initially, and then the last three games were not as per what we wanted, but this is going to happen in a tournament like IPL You play 14 league games, it’s a big tournament.”

“I think the upcoming two games are really important, and it’s all about staying positive. Three losses don’t make us a bad team. It’s all about playing to our strength and backing each and every individual. As a team, we are really looking forward to playing against Mumbai now and then RCB.”

Delhi Capitals had a three-day break after their loss by 88 runs against Sunrisers Hyderabad. The opener said that they learned about the mistakes they have done in their last three games. The break helped the players to switch off completely and focus on the preparations. Rahane has looked out of touch this season and believes there is plenty to learn from each game, individually and collectively.

“Sometimes it does help, you can actually reflect what went wrong, especially last three games. You can actually think about it and learn from your mistakes. It does help mentally and physically also. You get a break, switch off completely, and think about your own preparations and what your team needs from you.

“I believe in that (the break), it’s all about how you take it. After losing a game, you always learn a lot. In fact, after each and every game, I always believe that you learn something or the other,” Ajinkya Rahane added.

Delhi will face Mumbai and Bangalore in their last two league games. They have their fate in their own hands. However, losses in both the matches will drastically reduce their chances to reach the playoffs.
