Matchday 9 of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2020) saw a host of records being set and broken in what proved to be one of the grandest games in the history of the Indian Premier League. Rajasthan Royals (RR) and Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) were involved in one of the most intense games in the history of the tournament.

The game took place at the historic Sharjah Cricket Stadium and eventually, we witnessed another desert storm on the field when RR and KXIP collided against each other on Sunday. The hosts, Rajasthan Royals, won the toss and elected to field first. The decision, however, backfired as KL Rahul and Mayank Agarwal set their foot on the gas from the first go.

The openers had a record-breaking first wicket partnership for Punjab as Mayank Agarwal smashed his maiden century in the Indian Premier League. KXIP eventually finished with a grand total of 223/2 in their 20 overs.

Rajasthan Royals Pulled Off A Miraculous Chase

When Rajasthan Royals came out to bat, they had a gigantic total to chase from the first go. However, things didn’t go as per the plan as Jos Buttler, their devastating opener was dismissed cheaply by Sheldon Cottrell pretty early in the game. Sanju Samson came in to bat at number 3 and carried on from where he had left in the last game, smashing a wonderful half-century.

However, when things looked on-song for RR, their skipper Steve Smith was dismissed right after completing his half-century and then came in Rahul Tewatia. Although it took him a while to middle the ball, once he did, he made sure he helped RR chase the target in a massive manner. Tewatia smashed five sixes in an over off Sheldon Cottrell and turned the tide in RR’s favor. Eventually, RR came out on top as they scaled the highest successful run chase in the history of the tournament.

Kings XI Punjab are looking like one of the big game-changers this season in the IPL. Although they have lost 2 games out of the 3 that they have played until now, they have majorly dominated all the games for the longer duration.
