Rajasthan Royals’ batsman Sanju Samson is on the verge of repeating his mediocre IPL seasons of the past. Sanju Samson has always had the trend of beginning the tournament well and falling apart as it progresses. After striking a flamboyant 74 and 85 in the first two games in Sharjah, the right-handed batsman has failed even to reach double figures in the next three games in Abu Dhabi and Dubai. Hence, Brian Lara has reflected on Samson’s failures.

Sanju Samson received plenty of backing from the cricketing fraternity to play for India moving forward regularly after his innings of 74 and 85. Samson was striking the ball cleanly as it played an instrumental role in Rajasthan Royals’ amassing consecutive 200 plus scores. However, the 25-year old has not been able to apply himself and dismissed to a couple of short-pitched deliveries in two out of the next three innings.

Samson’s failures have also given rise to Rajasthan Royals’ woes at the top of the order, chiefly responsible for their three defeats on the bounce. As far as the Kerala batsman’s international career goes, he has featured in four T20Is and managed only 35 runs in those. Hence, despite the two eye-catching knocks at the start of the competition, Sanju Samson could be far from establishing himself as a regular fixture in the national team.

West Indian legend Brian Lara touted Sanju Samson as a very classy player and looked quite good in the 2020 IPL edition thus far. However, Lara feels that Samson faces troubles against quality bowling attack on tricky batting wickets.

“Sanju Samson, who is not ’keeping for Rajasthan Royals, but I do understand that he keeps, that’s one of his main jobs very classy player, looks good so far in the tournament in Sharjah. I feel there’s a little chink in his armoury in terms of his technique against very good bowling on sporty tracks,” Lara stated as quoted by India Today.
