The rules have been announced for the upcoming season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) which will be held amid the pandemic. The much-anticipated edition of the competition will be played in the UAE and will start on September 19. The final of IPL 2020 will be held on November 10.

The teams will be allowed to make Covid-19 replacements. The decision to have player replacements in the wake of the novel coronavirus pandemic was discussed in Sunday’s Governing Council meeting. All the franchises will be allowed to replace players in case they get unwell during the course of the tournament.

IPL franchises will be allowed 24-player squads for the 13th edition of the tournament.

Here are all the keynotes from the IPL Governing Council Meeting:

1) Ending all the speculations surrounding the dates, the BCCI has confirmed that IPL 2020 will be held across a window of 53. The event will start on September 10 and finish on November 10. Several media reports had previously suggested that the league would end on November 8.

2) The matches will be starting at 7.30 PM IST.

3) At the start of the competition, the games will be played in empty stadiums. However, fans will be allowed to enter the stadiums during the later part.

4) All the eight teams will leave for UAE post August 26.

5) The Indian cricket board has also ended all the speculations surrounding its sponsors especially the Chinese ones. The board has confirmed that all sponsors, including the Chinese ones, will continue to be the partner.

6) The teams have been allowed to Covid-19 substitutes. Each team will have a 24-member squad. All players from India as well as other nations will travel in chartered flights.

8) BCCI is working with specialist firms to prepare an apt Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for successful conduction of the tournament.

IPL 2020 was originally scheduled to be held between March and May. However, the BCCI had to suspend the league indefinitely in the light of the pandemic. Last month, the ICC postponed this year’s T20 World Cup which eventually cleared the path for the BCCI to conduct the IPL.
