Chennai Super Kings could suffer yet another huge setback ahead of this year’s Indian Premier League as their veteran spinner Harbhajan Singh could give the upcoming season a miss.

CSK have already lost the services of their star batsman Suresh Raina. Last week, the left-handed batsman surprisingly left the camp in UAE to return to India citing personal reasons. The franchise confirmed that their all-time leading run-scorer would miss IPL 2020.

And the three-time champions could now lose Harbhajan Sing too. The veteran spinner is yet to join the team in the UAE. And with each passing day, doubts are increasing over his participation in the upcoming edition. As per report in ANI, Harbhajan Singh is yet to officially inform the franchise about his availability but the team is preparing for life without him in IPL 2020.

“He has not sent in any official communication and that is expected by today evening or tomorrow. But the team management has been told to prepare for the scenario wherein they may miss his services,” a source was quoted as saying by the news outlet.

Harbhajan Singh had also skipped the pre-season camp earlier this month which was held from August 15 to 20. IPL 2020 is scheduled to be played entirely in UAE because of the alarming coronavirus situation in India. The tournament would be played across three formats – Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Sharjah. IPL 2020 is scheduled to start on September 19 while the final is on November 10.

Things have not really unfolded in an expected manner for CSK in UAE. Days after they landed in UAE, they were rocked by several COVID-19 cases in their camp. As many as 13 members including 2 players – Deepak Chahar, Ruturaj Gaikwad – had tested positive for the dreaded virus.

At present, the entire team is in quarantine but are likely to start training from Friday after all the members, except the 13, returned negative results. CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan recently confirmed the news while stating that the training could finally start this week.
