Yorkers are arguably the most effective type of delivery in any form of the game. In the shortest format of the sport, bowlers often deliver yorkers at the back end of the innings to prevent the batsmen from latching on to the balls. It goes a long way in keeping the batsmen on their toes and restrict them from dispatching the ball to the boundary.

However, it is worth noting that yorkers are also hard to deliver. Often bowlers miss their length and on such cases, it becomes a case of a low full toss or a half-volley, ones that batsmen could play easily. The blockhole could also be tough to find if there’s dew on the pitch, not enabling the bowlers to grasp and release the ball as desired.

On that note, we take a look at five bowlers who have bowled the most yorkers in IPL 2020:

Andre Russell – 6:

As much of a destructive batsman Andre Russell is, he is also a brilliant death bowler. While Kolkata Knight Riders do not have a shortage of bowlers, who could bowl at the back end, Andre Russell has stepped up when others have failed.

So far, in IPL 2020, the Jamaican has delivered six yorkers and bowled brilliantly the other night against Delhi Capitals. He gave away only seven runs in the final over. In four matches so far, the 31-year old has four wickets at an economy rate of 7.75.

Kagiso Rabada – 7:

With eight wickets in four matches so far, Kagiso Rabada is the joint-highest wicket-taker in IPL 2020. Kagiso Rabada is not only one of the fastest bowlers but also exquisite with the new ball and in death. He shares the new ball with Anrich Nortje and has been quite successful.

Kagiso Rabada has so far delivered seven yorkers in the current IPL edition and is one of the chief reasons behind Delhi Capitals’ success so far. The South African speedster’s eight wickets has come at an economy rate of 7.87. Rabada conceding 23 runs off an over against Kolkata Knight Riders in Sharjah was indeed an exception.

Sam Curran – 7:

Sam Curran has been an exceptional addition to the Chennai Super Kings’ armoury and one of the few players, who could hold their heads high. In his first match for the Super Kings, Sam Curran played a cameo of 18 runs, a wicket, and a couple of catches for good measure.

Meanwhile, the 22-year old has bowled seven yorkers and has become an integral part of Chennai’s new-ball bowling attack and death bowling. In four matches, the left-arm seamer has picked up five scalps at a reasonably good economy rate of 8.33 and an average of 25.

Sam Curran’s elder brother Tom Curran is next on the list with as many as the Chennai Super Kings’ seamer. Tom Curran is primarily a death bowler, who is expert with his variations and differing his length. So far, he has played all four matches for the Rajasthan Royals.

Tom has so far taken only three wickets in four matches primarily because Rajasthan has played two out of four games in Sharjah. In the rest two games, the right-arm seamer has been unlucky. The 25-year old could find himself out of the side when Ben Stokes returns.

T Natarajan – 20:

T Natarajan from SunRisers Hyderabad is head and shoulders above the rest as he has delivered 20 yorkers in IPL 2020. T Natarajan could arguably be the find of this IPL and playing after a lengthy gap; he has performed brilliantly and been the go-to death bowler for his captain David Warner.

The left-arm seamer exemplified a stunning display of death bowling against Delhi Capitals when Marcus Stoinis and Axar Patel were on the crease. In five matches so far, he has five scalps at an economy rate of 8.31. It is also a relief to the SRH that they have got a bowler to partner Bhuvneshwar Kumar at the death.
