Bowling to Andre Russell is probably the most dreaded challenge for bowlers at present. The West Indies star has been in scary form for some time now and is clearly the best hitter of the cricket ball in the game right now. His performance in the last two season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) has been stunning to say the least.

Andre Russell single-handedly won games for Kolkata Knight Riders with his explosive batting. The right-handed batsman scored 510 runs at a breathtaking average of 56.66 and a breathtaking strike-rate of 204.81 in IPL 2019. In 2018, he had scored 316 runs with a strike-rate of almost 185.

And ahead of the upcoming IPL season, former Kolkata Knight Riders skipper Gautam Gambhir has said that there is one bowler who might be able to succeed against the big-hitting West Indian batsman. The legendary batsman named Mumbai Indians’ Jasprit Bumrah as the one who could win his battle against Andre Russell.

“There might be two or three of them in the IPL who could trouble him but not beyond that. I don’t see bowlers other than probably someone like Jasprit Bumrah who can actually trouble Andre Russell,” Gautam Gambhir said on the Cricket Connected Show on Star Sports.

Andre Russell’s batting position:

Andre Russell’s batting spot has been a matter of discussion for over a year now. In last IPL, he had publicly expressed his displeasure over the way he was handled by the team-management. There have been calls from several quarters to promote him in the batting order and Gautam Gambhir has the same opinion too.

The former India opener said that the allrounder should not bat anywhere below No. 5.

“KKR should not send Andre Russell below No .5 in the batting order considering the form he is in. And the number should not matter, the overs should matter. Batting position is an overrated thing, six balls can change the entire match in T20 cricket,” he said.

“So at times, it is possible, that you have got such a good start, that you can send Russell even ahead of Morgan. It is not necessary to send him after Morgan. You can send him at No. 4 as well, it should be an over-oriented batting line-up rather than saying that you will not send him above No. 5 or No. 6,” he added.
