Shane Watson was once again in business; however, Chennai Super Kings could not beat Kolkata Knight Riders with in the 21st match of IPL 2020. After returning to form with a blistering 83 not out against Kings XI Punjab, Shane Watson struck another half-century to set the foundation for what should have been a comfortable victory. With that, the three-time champions have retained their current spot; however, the Knight Riders made a gain.

After choosing to bat first, Rahul Tripathi’s innings of 81 was the bedrock of the Knight Riders’ innings as he batted till the 17th over. Rahul Tripathi’s 51-ball knock, containing eight fours and three sixes was very crucial in Kolkata sneaking out a 10-run victory to secure the much needed two points. The rest of the batsmen could not capitalise on their promising starts.

Shane Watson and Faf Du Plessis once again formed a confident opening stand; however, the former’s wicket in the 14th over was supposedly the turning point. It was hugely expected of Sam Curran and MS Dhoni to take the Super Kings as they displayed intent and mainly Curran, who played the big shots to take the pressure off the skipper. By the time the last two overs arrived, Chennai had to score a daunting 38 runs. With Curran dismissed and Kedar Jadhav struggling to middle the ball, all Ravindra Jadeja could do was limit the margin of defeat.
