Chennai Super Kings are one of the most decorated successful IPL franchises of the lot. Lead by MS Dhoni in all twelve seasons so far; the yellow army has made it to the finals of the tournament ten times, winning in three occasions. They also ended up as the runners-up the previous time, losing to Mumbai Indians by the barest of the margins.

The Chennai Super Kings also have one of the settled sides of the lot.

Hence, they didn’t have many holes to plug in the IPL auction conducted in 2019 in Kolkata ahead of the thirteenth season. Their squad strength is a total of 24, containing eight players and they bought four players in the auction.

We take a look at all the Chennai Super Kings’ players salaries for the IPL 2020.

Often branded as the “Captain Cool”, Mahendra Singh Dhoni is one of the most elite cricketers not only for the Indian team but also for the entire generation.

In 170 IPL matches, he has scored 4431 runs at 42.20.

As far as his captaincy records are concerned, he has won 104 games in 174 he has captained in. And he is one of the highest-earning cricketers in the line-up, earning INR 15 crores.

Suresh Raina – INR 11 crores

Suresh Raina was once one of the vital cogs in the Indian batting line-up, but gradually lost his place due to poor run of form with the bat.

However, he remains one of the most crucial players in Chennai’s ranks as a number three batsman and a terrific fielder.

The southpaw is the second-highest run-getter in the tournament history with 5368 runs. His salary stands at INR 11 crores.

Kedar Jadhav – INR 7.80 crores

Kedar Jadhav is one of the handiest limited-overs all-rounders in the Indian team today, capable of bowling some off-spin and striking big in the death overs. But because of being injury prone and a settled Indian side, Jadhav doesn’t get more caps.

He played 14 games in the last season, scoring 162 runs and has a salary cap of INR 7.80 crores.

Ravindra Jadeja – INR 7.00 crores

Regardless of any format, Ravindra Jadeja doesn’t stay out of the Indian team. Capable of adding runs at a brisk pace and having a wicket-taking ability, he can turn any match on its head. His skills in the field to pull off outstanding catches or effecting run-outs is a bonus.

In 2019, he took 15 wickets in 16 games and mustered 135 runs at 35.33. The 31-year old has a salary cap of INR 7 crores.

Piyush Chawla was bought in the 2020 auction by the yellow army after Kolkata Knight Riders released him ahead of the auction.

The 31-year old leg-spinner has played a staggering 157 matches for Kolkata Knight Riders and Kings XI Punjab and has taken 150 wickets at 27.15.

Piyush’s salary stands at INR 6.75 crores.

Dwayne Bravo – INR 6.40 crores

A T20 line-up doesn’t get completed without Dwayne Bravo.

The West Indian all-rounder’s medium pace, especially in the death overs can trick the best in business and can tonk a few out of the park at the backend.

The star all-rounder has been retained for the next season and has a salary cap of INR 6.40 crores.

Sam Curran – INR 5.50 crores

Kings XI Punjab released the English bowling all-rounder and it became Chennai’s gain.

Sam Curran’s medium pace bowling generates a deadly seam movement that can deceive some of the best batsmen.

The 21-year old took a hattrick and scored a couple of quick cameos the previous time. The Northampton born all-rounder has a salary cap of INR 5.50 crores.

Curran can be the perfect replacement for Dwayne Bravo, who has been a lot injury-prone of late.

Though a highly promising leg-spinner, Karn Sharma has also been inconsistent. His best year of the Indian Premier League (IPL) was in 2014 when he took 15 wickets in 13 games. Karn Sharma, based on domestic performances also earned a few caps for the national team, but couldn’t make his mark.

The 32-year old leggie has a salary cap of INR 5.00 crores.

Shane Watson – INR 4.00 crores

Australian all-rounder Shane Watson earned plenty of accolades along with being named the player of the tournament in the inaugural season in 2008.

The retired all-rounder has played 132 games in the competition and amassed 2682 runs.

In 2019, Watson scored 398 runs at a strike rate of 127.96 and possesses a salary cap of INR 4.00 crores.

Shardul Thakur – INR 2.60 crores

Shardul Thakur is one of the emerging fast bowlers in the national team, who has shouldered the attack in recent times in the absence of mainstays.

In 36 matches, he has taken as many wickets and took eight in ten games in the last edition. The Mumbai pace bowler has a salary cap of INR 2.60 crores.

Ambati Rayudu – INR 2.20 crores

Ambati Rayudu has had a start-stop international career despite making the most of his opportunities.

The right-handed batsmen played a significant part in Mumbai Indians’ multiple title triumphs before shifting his base to Chennai in 2018.

He was in a scintillating form in 2018, but had a comparatively lean season in 2019, scoring 282 runs at 23.50.

He pockets 2.2 crores for the IPL 2020.

Harbhajan Singh – INR 2 crores

Harbhajan Singh was one of the most accomplished spinners in India’s outfit for several years and is amongst the highest wicket-takers in Test cricket for them.

Since the inception of the tournament, the off-spinner has featured in 160 games and snapped 150 scalps.

With the bat, Harbhajan has 829 runs under his belt at a strike rate of 138.19. His retention came with a salary of INR 2 crores.

Josh Hazlewood – INR 2 crores

Josh Hazlewood was amongst the four players bought by the three-time champions in the auction ahead of the thirteenth season.

The biggest weapon of Hazlewood is his unrelenting accuracy and length that can put the best in two minds.

In recent times, he has increased his pace too, but the skills mentioned above are his greatest strengths. If he turns out for Chennai, it would be the first time he plays in the competition.

Murali Vijay – INR 2 crores

Murali Vijay was one of the most explosive batsmen in the first few years of the tournament. Along with Michael Hussey, the Tamil Nadu batsman had formed one of the most fearsome opening pairs.

However, the technical deficiencies in this game were exposed over time and he remains in the bench for the most part.

His salary stands at INR 2 crores.

Faf Du Plessis – INR 1.6 crores

South African Test skipper Faf Du Plessis is one of the classiest batsmen going around.

Faf Du Plessis has often been used as a floater batsman and has flourished in the middle order as well as the top.

For the Proteas right-handed batsman, the salary cap stands at INR 1.60 crores.

Imran Tahir – INR 1.00 crores

In terms of spin-bowling, Imran Tahir remains Chennai’s biggest asset. With an ability to bowl ripping leg-breaks and googlies, the veteran leg-spinner always bowls with an attacking mindset.

Tahir finished the 2019 season as the leading wicket-taker with 26 wickets in 18 games at a stunning average of 16.58.

Deepak Chahar – INR 80 Lakhs

Deepak Chahar has enjoyed a meteoric rise in India’s limited-overs matches of late.

Chahar has a unique ability to bowl nagging line and lengths and can swing the ball both ways.

The 27-year old took a staggering 22 wickets in only 17 games in the previous season and would be a big boost to the side if he can recover from his present injury.

He earns INR 80 lakhs.

Lungi Ngidi – INR 50 Lakhs

Lungi Ngidi is one of the most emerging fast bowlers in the wealth of pace bowlers produced by South Africa every year. He played a significant part in the latter half of the tournament of 2018 in CSK lifting the title.

However, he missed the entire competition of 2019 due to an injury. Chennai’s pace bowling attack would become deadly as ever if the South African can join their ranks in the forthcoming season.

He is being paid INR 50 lakhs.

Mitchell Santner has become a vital part of New Zealand’s plans irrespective of the format.

Though he has a simple bowling action, Santner’s left-arm spin has managed to decisive a lot of competent batsman.

His pyrotechnics at the lower order has won plenty of matches for the Kiwis.

The 28-year old possesses a salary cap of INR 50 lakhs.

KM Asif – INR 40 Lakhs

KM Asif is a promising domestic medium-pace bowler, who played a couple of matches in 2018 and took three wickets.

However, he couldn’t play a single game in the previous season and warmed the bench. In all T20s, the 26-year old has 11 wickets in ten games and has a salary cap of INR 40 lakhs.

Monu Kumar has an impressive T20 record of 25 wickets in 22 matches at an average of 22.

Though he hasn’t played a single game for the franchise so far, Chennai could use this season to get a look at this youngster.

He will receive 20 lakhs.

Narayan Jagadeesan – INR 20 Lakhs

Narayan Jagadeesan can be used as the backup wicketkeeper for MS Dhoni by Chennai.

In all T20s, the 24-year old has a strike rate of 111.72. Narayan also plays as an opening batsman; thus Chennai can use this opportunity to promote him at the top for a few games.

R Sai Kishore – INR 20 Lakhs

Ravi Srinivasan Sai Kishore was one the four players that Chennai Super Kings bought in the auction conducted in December.

The slow left-arm spinner emerged as the leading wicket-taker in the 2019 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, picking up 20 wickets in 12 games at 10.40.

Hence, with the introduction of R Sai Kishore, Chennai seems the strongest in the spin-bowling department who has a salary cap of INR 20 lakhs.

Ruturaj Gaikwad – INR 20 Lakhs

Ruturaj Gaikwad is a fresh and young addition to CSK’s middle-order who comes on the back of a prolific Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy wherein he scored 419 runs in 11 games at 41.90.

The truckload of runs came at a strike rate of 146.50.

Hence, along with the likes of Suresh Raina, MS Dhoni, and Dwayne Bravo, Gaikwad will get groomed quickly. Gaikwad will take home INR 20 lakhs.
