Sam Curran, on Saturday, made a stunning start to his journey with Chennai Super Kings. He was the most expensive English player in the previous auction at Rs 5.5 crore, bought after an intense biding war between CSK and Delhi Capitals. And the England star didn’t waste any time in justifying the faith shown in him by the franchise.

He impressed with both bat and ball to help CSK beat defending champions Mumbai Indians in IPL 2020-opener. With the bowlers, he conceded 28 runs and picked up the important wicket of Quinton de Kock (33 off 20) to help the CSK restrict Mumbai, who raced to 46 without loss inside five overs, to 162-9.

He then went on to impress with the bat too after being surprisingly promoted ahead of MS Dhoni and Kedar Jadhav. CSK needed 29 from 17 when he came out to bat and when he departed in the 19th over, the equation was 10 from 10.

He didn’t waste any time in showing why he had been promoted as he thrashed his second ball over midwicket for six, launched the next over extra cover for four and then hit Jasprit Bumrah for six more before being superbly caught by James Pattinson. Faf du Plessis then closed the game with two back-to-back fours in the final over.

Sam Curran’s message to CSK dressing room:

Following the game, Sam Curran and Lungi Ngidi interacted with each other during which the South African revealed what the former had told the CSK dressing room after being promoted. Ngidi revealed Sam Curran told his CSK teammates that he would either hit sixes or get out.

“I heard a comment before you went in – ‘it was either gonna be six or out’,” revealed Ngidi before asking his teammate to speak on it.

In reply, the 22-year old said he was surprised after being promoted before expressing his delight over his performance.

Here is the whole interview between the two:
