Chennai Super Kings appears to have got their IPL 2020 campaign back on track after they comprehensively beat Kings XI Punjab in the 18th match in Dubai. The CSK openers got the tempo up and running that they lacked since the past two games while chasing a total. By not losing a single wicket in pursuit of 179, they exchanged positions with KXIP, leaving them at the bottom.
KL Rahul and Mayank Agarwal gave Kings XI Punjab yet another strong start after he chose to bat first. They added 61 runs for the first wicket after which Mandeep Singh came in to strike a few lusty blows. The partnership between KL Rahul and Nicholas Pooran that followed was the most whirlwind of the lot, adding 58 off only 31 deliveries. The turning point came in the 18th over when KXIP lost Pooran and Rahul in successive deliveries, denting their chances of reaching 190. KXIP instead had to settle for 178 with debates circling whether the skipper should have accelerated much earlier.
Chennai Super Kings’ batting line-up was under the scanner as they failed in the past two matches while chasing a total. However, on this occasion, Shane Watson and Faf Du Plessis barely broke a sweat. KXIP bowlers hardly had answers to the experience of the veterans as the Super Kings aced the chase to give their campaign a much-needed lift. Earlier in the day, the result between Mumbai Indians and SunRisers Hyderabad caused a shift in the points table. The second game of the day was no different as CSK refused to submit this time.
Here’s what the points table reflect after the 18th match of IPL 2020:
