Kings XI Punjab co-owner Preity Zinta has asked for policy changes for improving the game after an umpiring decision marred her team’s narrow loss to Delhi Capitals in the second game of IPL 2020.

Delhi Capitals beat Kings XI Punjab through the super over after both the teams scored 157 runs in their allotted 20 overs. In the super over, Kings XI Punjab managed to score just two runs while batting first. Kagiso Rabada was the star with the ball as he dismissed KL Rahul and Nicholas Pooran on consecutive deliveries after conceding two on the first ball.

Delhi Capitals then took just three balls to go past the modest total and start their campaign on a winning note. Things, however, could have been different had ICC’s new Eite Panel entrant Nitin Menon not made a mistake.

Before the match went into Super Over, TV footage showed that square leg umpire Menon had called a “run short” when Chris Jordan took a couple of runs off Rabada in the 19th over while playing towards long-on area. The TV replays showed that Jordan legally completed the first run and the bat was inside the crease.

But to everyone’s surprise, Jordan was declared a “short run” which means he didn’t enter his bat inside the crease. That one run cost Kings XI dear as they eventually lost the game.

The decision has been criticised from all over and Preity Zinta also took to Twitter to speak over the same. While she stated that she has accepted the defeat gracefully, she was also quick to point out the mistake that cost her team the match.

“I’ve always believed in being graceful in a win or loss & in the spirit of the game but it’s also important to ask for policy changes that improve the game in the future for everyone. The past has happened and it’s imp to move on. So Looking ahead & being positive as always,” Preity Zinta wrote on Twitter.
