Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) emphatically defeated Kolkata Knight Riders beating the two-time champions by eight wickets to chase down a paltry target of 85 runs. Head coach, Simon Katich is very pleased with RCB’s complete domination in UAE’s Abu Dhabi.

Eoin Morgan won the toss and elected to bat first. The move backfired as RCB‘s pacers blew away the KKR batting order. KKR kept losing wickets and could only post 84 runs in 20 overs. The target was comfortably chased down, and RCB registered their seventh win of the season.

It was a ruthless performance: Simon Katich

Simon Katich, Bangalore’s chief coach, is thrilled with the team’s victory and credits the bowlers for their proper execution. He praised Chris Morris and Mohammed Siraj for their new-ball spell.

Katich feels they won the game in the powerplay when Kolkata lost four wickets at the score of just fourteen. Katich chatted about the points table and what could happen if the game would have gone the other way. He emphasizes on focussing on the process and let the result take care of itself.

“I am very happy. I think the boys deserved a lot of credit for the execution and we were all on the money right from word go. Our bowlers set up the game in the first couple of overs. Morris started off well and then Siraj backed him up. Siraj two wickets in the second over put the opposition on the back foot and then another couple in the powerplay, there was no coming back then. It was ruthless performance,” said Simon Katich in a video posted on RCB’s Twitter handle.

“This was a big game. We had little a break before and given the way the table is if this game would have gone to the other way then we are both equal. So, we made sure to focus just on the process and the result took care of itself. The players deserved a lot of credit because I couldn’t have asked for a better job with the ball,” Katich added.

Simon Katich also commented on the high fielding standard his team has set. The RCB fielders showed great intensity in the fielding department, which invariably gives confidence to the bowlers.

“The way we went about it especially with the ball, obviously Morris and then Siraj with the new ball. The way we won speaks volumes about the team’s talent. The other thing which stood out was the intensity in the field. In terms of how we fielded was spot on,” Katich further asserted.

Post their victory over Kolkata, Bangalore is positioned at the second spot on the point table. They are just a couple of points away from sealing a playoff berth. Virat Kohli’s men will take on Dhoni’s yellow brigade on Sunday in Dubai.
