Former India batsman Yuvraj Singh has expressed his surprise over Royal Challengers Bangalore’s decision to demote AB de Villiers at number six during their clash against Kings XI Punjab on Thursday.

Before the clash against KXIP, AB de Villiers had played a stunning knock off unbeaten 73 off just 33 balls in his previous outing against Kolkata Knight Riders. In that match, he had come out to bat at his usual position of number four. But against KXIP, RCB decided to hold him back after losing their openers inside seven overs.

Washington Sundar and Shivam Dube were promoted ahead of the former South Africa skipper but the move did not pay off. While Sundar scored 13 off 14 balls, Dube scored 23 off 19. AB de Villiers finally came out to bat in the 17th over but lasted for only five balls, managing 2.

The move did baffle many and Yuvraj Singh is not an exception either. As the match was going on, the former RCB batsman took to Twitter to state that he was surprised with the move. He also had a word for Chris Gayle who was playing his first game in IPL 2020 and praised KL Rahul and Mayank Agarwal too, writing:

“Surprised to see @ABdeVilliers17 coming to bat so late ! #RCBvKXIP #IPL2020,” he added.

As far as the match is concerned, KXIP thrashed RCB by eight wickets to return to winning ways and end their five-match losing streak. The win was just the second win of the season in eight games for KXIP. KL Rahul and Chris Gayle starred with the bat, scoring 61* and 53 respectively to help KXIP chase down 172.
