Royal Challengers Bangalore, on Wednesday, thrashed Kolkata Knight Riders by eight wickets to register their seventh win of the season. With the win, RCB also moved to the second spot in the points table while KKR remain at the fourth spot with five wins from ten games.

The writing was very much on the cards when Devdutt Padikkal and Aaron Finch came out to chase a modest total of 85. The duo started cautiously before starting to play the big shots. By the time the powerplay ended, Royal Challengers Bangalore raced away to 44 for no loss to all but kill the contest.

In the first over of the powerplay, Royal Challengers Bangalore lost both their openers but it didn’t make cause much trouble for them. Captain Virat Kohli and Gurkeerat Mann shared an unbeaten stand of 39 runs to take their team home in the 14th over.

Earlier in the game, KKR came up with a terrible batting display to finish on 84 for 8 after skipper Eoin Morgan won the toss and decided to bat first. Mohammed Siraj did the early damage and KKR never managed to recover from it.

Bowling the second over of KKR’s innings, Siraj sent back Rahul Tripathi and Nitish Rana on consecutive deliveries while bowling a maiden. In the third over, Navdeep Saini sent back Shubman Gill before Siraj struck again in the fourth over to remove Tom Banton and reduce KKR to 14 for 4.

The fall of the fourth wicket brought KKR’s most experienced duo Eoin Morgan and Dinesh Karthik in the middle. However, they failed to bail the side out of trouble. Morgan and Karthik could add only 18 runs before the latter returned to the pavilion after scoring only 4 off 14 balls.

The two-time champions kept losing wickets at regular intervals and consequently, never got the impetus during their inning. Morgan top-scored for his side, scoring 30 off 34 balls while Lockie Ferguson’s unbeaten 19 was the second highest score.

For RCB, Siraj was the pick of the bowlers, taking 3 for just 8 off his four overs. Yuzvendra Chahal also continued his fine run with the ball, taking 2 off just 15 off his four-over quota.
