Glenn Maxwell had a huge payday at the ongoing IPL 2021 auction in Chennai, as he received a huge bid from Royal Challengers Bangalore. Maxwell had set his base price at the max of INR 2 Cr and got Chennai Super Kings and Royal Challengers Bangalore engaging in a huge bidding war over him.

The intense bidding was surprising given that Maxwell had an atrocious outing in the IPL 2020 in UAE for the Punjab Kings. He had struggled to get going and made only 108 runs in 13 matches at a strike rate of 101.88 and couldn’t manage to hit a single six.

However, Maxwell’s aura and potential to cause huge damage with the bat and versatility with the ball led to CSK and RCB going at it in the IPL 2021 auction. His T20 record is amazing with 6581 runs in 301 matches at a striker rate of 152.05 and has 3 centuries and 37 half-centuries to his name. His highest score is 145* and he has hit 331 sixes and 529 fours in his career thus far.

Glenn Maxwell got a winning bid of INR 14.25 Cr from Royal Challengers Bangalore, which was much more than what Punjab Kings paid for him in IPL 2020 auction (INR 10.75 Cr). At RCB, Maxwell will be joining forces with Virat Kohli, Devdutt Padikkal, and AB de Villiers to form one of the most dangerous batting lineups in the upcoming IPL 2021.

He will also have fellow Australian players in Josh Phillippe and Adam Zampa for the company in the Bangalore franchise and Zampa had a very good way to welcome Glenn Maxwell into the RCB clan. The Australia team is preparing for the New Zealand T20I series at the moment and the leg-spinner posted a photo himself with new RCB recruit Glenn Maxwell.

In the photo, Zampa presents Maxwell with an RCB cap inducting his fellow Australian into the franchise. With the IPL 2021 reportedly being played in India this season, Glenn Maxwell’s presence in the RCB camp will increase its popularity more than ever and his abilities will also help lessen the pressure from Kohli and De Villiers to deliver every match.
