Australia’s Nathan Coulter-Nile was one of the seven players to be released from five-time and defending champions Mumbai Indians and enter the IPL 2021 auction. Nathan Coulter-Nile, who set his base price at INR 1.5 crores, fetched a hefty eight crores from the Mumbai-based franchise. However, he got only limited opportunities.

The 33-year old played in the final phase of the IPL 2020, featuring in seven matches and managing five wickets at 41.20 while keeping an economy rate of 7.92. With Mumbai Indians having potent quick bowlers like Jasprit Bumrah and Trent Boult, the management saw it fit to release him alongside Mitchell McClenaghan and James Pattinson, who opted out of the auction.

With Coulter-Nile remaining away from the national team and giving underwhelming performances in IPL 2020, franchises may not bid for him as heavily as in the previous auction. The right-arm speedster’s outing for the Melbourne Stars was also above average in the BBL 2020-21, taking 11 wickets in five matches at 15.63. In 33 IPL fixtures, Coulter-Nile has 41 victims at 22.56 with one four-wicket haul while maintaining an economy rate of 7.72.
