IPL 2021 Auction: Alex Hales Goes Unsold

Alex Hales might be out of England’s limited-overs side due to disciplinary issues; however, he is making rapid strides in franchise cricket. Hence, he could be one of the hottest picks in the IPL 2021 auction. Alex Hales has played plenty of franchise cricket in the past year and specifically shone in the latest editions of Big Bash League and Pakistan Super League.

The 32-year old ended BBL 2020-21 as the highest run-getter with 543 runs for the Sydney Thunder in 15 matches at 38.78 with one century and three fifties. The 2020 season of Pakistan Super League saw the right-handed batsman accumulate 272 runs in nine fixtures at 45.33 while maintaining a strike rate of 148.63.

With the Middlesex-born batsman racking up runs in franchise cricket, he would be keen to prove his credentials and improve his record in IPL. Hales, who has played only for SunRisers Hyderabad in IPL thus far, featured in six matches, managing 148 runs at 24.67 while maintaining a strike rate of 125.42.

He played in the 2018 season, coming as a replacement player for David Warner. Shane Bond, who is the coach of Mumbai Indians, also coached Hales while at Sydney Thunder. Bond backed the Englishman to be one of the hottest picks in IPL 2021 player auction and reckons that Hales is at his best at this moment.
