IPL 2024: We Weren't Able To Win The Elusive Trophy - Mike Hesson's Heartfelt Post After Parting Ways With RCB

Outing Director of Cricket Of Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) Mike Hesson post a heartfelt message after parting ways with the franchise. He said that he’s disappointed to leave the team and admitted that he failed to win the title with the team.

Royal Challengers Bangalore parted ways with Mike Hesson on Friday (4th August). The franchise didn’t renew its contract, which is set to end in September 2023. The former New Zealand cricketer was roped in by the franchise ahead of the IPL 2020 and he did a decent job.

Mike Hesson guided Royal Challengers Bangalore to the playoffs in three successive seasons before ending 5th on the points table in IPL 2023. Along with him Sanjay Banger’s contract too wasn’t renewed by the team. He joined the team in 2022 after Virat Kohli’s recommendation.

In his place, RCB has roped in Andy Flower as the head coach of the team. The former Zimbabwe cricketer was part of the Lucknow Super Giants for two years and his contract too wasn’t renewed. It is learned that Faf du Plessis-led side wanted him to give enough time to prepare for the auction.

Mike Hesson after leaving RCB posted a heartwarming message, saying that he’s disappointed but he will take very fond memories working with great people. Taking to his Instagram account, he explained:

“Although we were able to make good progress making 3 playoffs in the last 4 seasons we were not able to win the elusive trophy that I like so many players, support staff and the amazing fans so dearly wanted. Although disappointed to be leaving RCB I have some very fond memories working with great people both on and off the park.”

Mike Hesson further went on to thank RCB fans and management for allowing him to coach the team.

Expressing his gratitude over the same, he remarked: “I would like to thank the management for the opportunity and wish RCB and its new coaching team the very best. Lastly to the amazing RCB fans, you are unwavering in your support and passion for the team and made me feel at home, for that I thank you.”
