On Sunday, the world witnessed another such historic battle wherein certain records were set and broken when Rajasthan Royals (RR) took on Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) on Matchday 9 of IPL 2020. 5. Chennai Super Kings (208/5) vs Royal Challengers Bangalore (205/8)- IPL 2012

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) are the two southern giants in the Indian Premier League. The two teams met in the 2012 IPL wherein RCB won the toss and elected to bat first at the Chepauk Stadium in Chennai. The visitors put a total of 205/8 in the first innings, thanks to half-centuries from Chris Gayle and Virat Kohli.

4. Kings XI Punjab (211/4) vs SunRisers Hyderabad (205/5)- IPL 2014

Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) and SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) collided in IPL 2014 at the Rajiv Gandhi Stadium in Hyderabad wherein, Punjab won the toss and elected to field first. The decision backfired as SRH scaled a giant total of 205/5 as Naman Ojha scored a splendid half-century for the hosts.

Kings XI Punjab, however, turned the tide in their favour as Wriddhiman Saha scored a magnificent half-century to seal the deal for the visitors in style.

3. Delhi Daredevils (214/3) vs Gujarat Lions (208/7)- IPL 2017

In the 2017 edition of the Indian Premier League, Delhi Daredevils and Gujarat Lions locked horns against each other at the Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium in Delhi. The hosts won the toss and elected to field first. Gujarat Lions proved to be the heavyweights after the first innings came to a close as they scaled a massive total of 208 runs as Suresh Raina and Dinesh Karthik scored splendid half-tons.

However, Rishabh Pant had different plans on the day as he absolutely bashed the Gujarat bowlers all over the park and helped Delhi win the game in the end by 7 wickets as Pant failed to score a century by only 3 runs. Sanju Samson also had a great evening with the bat for the hosts as he smashed a brilliant half-century.

2. Rajasthan Royals (217/7) vs Deccan Chargers (214/5)- IPL 2008

In the inaugural edition of the Indian Premier League way back in 2008, Rajasthan Royals won the first edition of the massive tournament. On their road to glory, they met Deccan Chargers in the 9th game of the tournament that took place at Rajiv Gandhi Stadium in Hyderabad wherein Rajasthan Royals won the toss and elected to field first.

Andrew Symonds, the veteran Australian, spit carnage on the field as he smashes a scintillating century and Deccan Chargers ended up with 214/5 on the scoreboard. However, Rajasthan’s skipper Shane Warne came up with a match-defying innings in the end as he smashed 22 runs in just 9 balls and Rajasthan ended at 217/7. Yusuf Pathan won the Man of the Match award for his gritty knock.

Rajasthan Royals created history on Matchday 9 of the Indian Premier League 2020 as they scaled the biggest ever run chase in the history of the tournament when they smashed 226 runs for the loss of 6 wickets in response to Kings XI Punjab’s 223/2. Rajasthan won the toss at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium and elected to field first. Kings XI Punjab smashed 223 runs in the first innings, courtesy to a splendid century from Mayank Agarwal, and a brilliant half-century from KL Rahul.

However, Rajasthan batsmen displayed massive grit and determination and did not lose hope of chasing a humungous target of 224 runs. Half-centuries from Steve Smith, Sanju Samson, and Rahu Tewatia proved to be the game-changing moment as the hosts scaled the highest ever run chase in the history of IPL with 3 balls left. Sanju Samson was awarded the Man of the Match for his valiant effort with the bat.
