Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) star batsman AB de Villiers feels they are still capable of turning things around despite having a worst possible start to edition eleven of the Indian Premier League (IPL).
Meanwhile, RCB kept their hopes alive beating Mumbai Indians by 14 runs. Although de Villiers missed the game due to a viral fever, he feels the best is yet to come.
It may be an ideal time for the Virat Kohli-led team to come into its own with their back against the wall now.
De Villiers who missed the last two games is suffering from a severe viral flu. He admitted that he is facing problems to sleep and has barely left his room.
“The last four days have been a blur I have been suffering from severe viral flu, one of the most debilitating illnesses I have ever experienced. Aside from one visit to the hospital, I have barely left my hotel room. Sleep has been almost impossible, and the migraine headaches have been extreme,” De Villiers wrote in TOI.
The best is yet to come:
However, he revealed that he is improving and is likely to be available for selection in the next game.
Meanwhile, RCB plays their next game against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in Pune. Moreover, he revealed that the team is desperate to prove their worth in the upcoming fixtures.
“With a record of having won three and lost five in eight matches, we are now lying fifth in the table, still very much in contention, still keenly aware that we have not yet consistently performed to our potential, and still believing our best cricket is yet to come,” he added.
RCB, fifth in the leaderboard, with six points from eight matches, are at a stage where they need to win all their remaining matches. De Villiers mentioned that the squad is eager to serve at the business end of the tournament.
“There is a real sense of fight and determination in this RCB squad. We might have underperformed at stages, notably in the closing overs with bat and ball, but I sensed a strong spirit among players and coaches when we assembled a few weeks ago; it’s still there, and this will serve us well in the business end of the tournament,” De Villiers added.
Meanwhile, the South African batsman AB de Villiers has already set the tournament on fire with 280 runs in six matches.
