Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) mentor, Virender Sehwag states the swashbuckling opener from Windies, Chris Gayle is the biggest entertainer in the world of cricket.

Meanwhile, Gayle has already set the tournament on fire with a fifty and a hundred respectively from the two matches.

However, his team will want more from the big Jamaican to go long into the lucrative tournament.

Sehwag is the happiest person right now for roping in Gayle at the last moment. While other franchises opted not to consider Gayle.

Pertinently, Punjab went for him in the last hour and bought him at his base price of INR two crore after the big-hitting sensation went unsold twice during the two-day mega-auction on January 27 and 28 respectively in Bengaluru.

The Universe Boss has already paid back the trust shown to him by the Mohali-based outfit.

Nobody is a greater entertainer than him. That was a strategy because we had to buy other players also. He would have cost more if he was taken up in the first phase,” Sehwag said to NDTV.

He suffered an injury last season and it is difficult to score runs. Ask any cricketer, with a back injury, it’s difficult to score runs and that’s what he told us also. He missed a lot of games because he had pain in his back,” he added.

Everyone loves Gayle:

Everybody was in shock as Virat Kohli-led Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) didn’t retain the greatest Twenty20 batsman ever.

However, Sehwag feels Kohli dropped the idea of picking Gayle at the auction table.

Virender Sehwag also went onto add that Gayle is a guy who fits in the domain of KXIP side.

Kohli dropped him also (from Royal Challengers Bangalore). I was expecting nobody will pick him, he’s of my age. If we pick him, he’s a good guy to do the marketing. He’s fabulous with all the marketing guys, everyone loves Chris Gayle. He fits in our group also. We bought him for Rs 2 crore and if he wins two games, I recovered my money. Still more games to go and if he wins two more times he wins four games. He’s a big asset for KXIP now,” Sehwag concluded.

Meanwhile, Punjab dugout will want another swashbuckling knock from Gayle when they square off against Kolkata Knight Riders on April 21 (Saturday) at the Eden Gardens.
