Indian Premier League (IPL) is nothing sort of an exhibition contest. It has allowed some players to unleash their talents and go full throttle putting up a show for the franchise. IPL has also displayed how much the game of cricket has changed over the years. Test great Rahul Dravid once said that he would not have sustained today’s generation of cricket due to his poor strike rate.

In the 90s, scoring double centuries was only for Test cricket, but as time has evolved it some cricketers have made it look easy to score an individual 200 even in the ODIs. Moreover, even in the T20s, some players have made scoring centuries look effortlessly easy.

Let us have a look at some players who scored centuries for at least two franchises in the IPL:

Adam Gilchrist

Adam Gilchrist was one of the most valuable players during his time at IPL due to his multi-dimensional abilities. Gilchrist could stump a player, captain his side, and also bat his franchise to victory. He was nothing sort of a talisman for his side, who once led the now defunct Deccan Chargers to a IPL triumph in 2009.

During his stint in the lucrative tournament, Gilchrist scored centuries for Deccan Chargers and Kings XI Punjab. The first one came for DC when he notched up a 42-ball century in the inaugural edition of IPL in 2008 against Mumbai Indians. Later, in 2011, he hit his second IPL century for KXIP against RCB in Dharmasala.

Virender Sehwag liked to take charge at the bowlers from the word go and it hardly mattered to him if he got out on a duck or scored a triple century — his expressions would remain the same. It is one of these qualities which helped him achieve success as an opener of the Indian cricket team.

He scored his first century in the IPL for Mumbai Indians against Deccan Chargers while playing for Delhi Daredevils in 2011 while his second came for KXIP in IPL 2014 against Chennai Super Kings (CSK).

Brendon McCullum

Brendon McCullum was one of the most fiercest hitters in world cricket. He liked to take on the bowlers from the word go and formats hardly mattered to him. After plying his trade for various franchises in IPL, he also took up the role of coach for Kolkata Knight Riders.

McCullum made a spectacular start by playing a whirlwind knock of 158 runs in the inaugural edition of IPL for KKR against RCB. Later in 2015, he scored his second IPL century while playing for Chennai Super Kings (CSK).

AB de Villiers

AB de Villiers adds value to any team that he features. He has also made shot-making look easy and that is one reason, he is known as Mr.360. AB de Villiers has a special ability to hit the bowlers out of the park no what the bowler has to offer.

De Villiers scored his first IPL century for Delhi Daredevils against CSK in 2009. He later went on to add another one to his tally in the year 2015 for RCB against Mumbai Indians.

Chris Gayle

Chris Gayle is one of the cleanest hitters off the ball and when his bat does the talking he is hard to be stopped. Veteran West Indies batsman Gayle has established himself as a powerful striker of the ball not only for his national team but also in franchise leagues across the world. Today, there is hardly any league left, where Chris Gayle has not made his presence felt.

From Afghanistan Premier League (APL) to Global T20 Canada League, Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) and Everest Premier League (EPL) — Gayle has played almost everywhere. In the IPL, he hit his first century in 2012 for the RCB while he scored his eighth against KXIP in 2018.

David Warner

David Warner is an aggressive opener who can tear apart an opponent from the word go if he gets going. Warner was also instrumental in leading the SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) to their title triumph and holds four centuries in his IPL career.

His first two centuries in the lucrative tournament came for the Delhi Darevils. One of them came in IPL 2010, when he played an unbeaten knock of 107 runs against Kolkata Knight Riders. Meanwhile, for SRH, in IPL 2017 he scored 126 runs off 59 balls against KKR.

Australia all-rounder Shane Watson has been the lynchpin of CSK batting line-up. He has four IPL centuries to his name two each for CSK and RR. In IPL 2013, he scored 101 runs off 58 balls for Rajasthan Royals against CSK. Meanwhile, for CSK, in IPL 2018 he scored 106 runs off 57 balls against Rajasthan Royals.

Sanju Samson

Kerala wicket-keeper batsman Sanju Samson broke into the Indian team through his consistent performances in the IPL. Samson, however, failed to replicate his form in the few chances he got to play for the national team.

Samson received his T20I cap for India in 2015 against Zimbabwe. He has played four matches in the shortest format, scoring 35 runs, which has seen him being dropped out of the side. Samson, 29, has played 55 matches for Kerala in domestic cricket, scoring 3162 runs, at an average of 37.64.

In the IPL, he has two centuries, one each for Delhi Daredevils and Rajasthan Royals. In IPL 2017, while playing for Delhi Daredevils, he hit 62-ball century against Rising Pune Super Giant while later in 2019, he scored 102 not out off 55 balls against SRH.
