Following the poor show of a team in general, Delhi Daredevils??? (DD) skipper Gautam Gambhir has decided to step down as a leader of the side during the ongoing edition of Indian Premier League (IPL).
Meanwhile, top-order batsman Shreyas Iyer has replaced him as the new leader to be at the helm of affairs. Gambhir scored only 85 runs in the five matches for Delhi thus far.
As a team, Delhi didn???t have the best of the starts to their IPL campaign. The side went on to lose five matches and has won a solitary match to find themselves at the bottom of the IPL 2018 points table so far. Thus, it took its toll on southpaw eventually.
Delhi Daredevils had a dreadful start to their IPL campaign.
This move came as a bolt from the blue as Gambhir had led Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) with all the aplomb during his seven-year stint with the franchise.
Moreover, the aggressive batsman Gambhir also failed to deliver the goods with the bat for Delhi. The opening batsman had a good start to the IPL season as he scored a fine fifty against Kings XI Punjab on April 8.

However, Gambhir was not able to continue his good form going in the tournament. The veteran batsman was looking to hit the ball hard but never could get his timing going.
Delhi has always had their issues and it is has been similar season thus far for them. The Delhi franchise will now look to bounce back after losing out on the services of Gambhir as the leader of the side.
The experienced batsman will continue to play as a batsman in the side.

Gambhir also confirmed that it was his independent decision. Thus, he was not influenced by any member of the team management or the coaching staff.
Meanwhile, Gambhir???s decision to step down as the captain of the side can be considered as a blessing in disguise for Delhi.
It???s expected Gambhir can play with more freedom to express himself at the top of the order.

I've seen Sourav Ganguly too in the past. It's not easy to work with Australian coaches & people around who don't let you work with freedom. It's a good decision from Gautam Gambhir to step down. 6 matches were enough for him to understand what kind of mess DD management is
