Team India continued their dominance against Ireland, and as they destroyed hosts by 143 runs to win the series 2-0.

Earlier, Siddarth Kaul was handed his maiden India cap. There were as many as four changes from the previous match. Shikhar Dhawan and MS Dhoni were on rest in favour of Manish Pandey and Dinesh Karthik. Meanwhile, Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Jasprit Bumrah also got rested in favour of Umesh Yadav and Siddarth Kaul.

It was again Ireland’s skipper, Gary Wilson who won the toss and put the visitors in. Captain Virat Kohli and KL Rahul went out to begin proceedings.

Both started with some good shots. However, Kohli got dismissed pretty soon on nine. Rahul was joined by Suresh Raina and the duo looked in complete command of proceedings. Both played some delightful shots to get going. It was Rahul in particular who looked in sublime touch and carried on from where he left in the IPL.

The southpaw scored 69 off 45 deliveries which included three fours and three sixes. In the later stages, it was a breathtaking knock of 32 off just nine balls by Hardik Pandya which propelled India to a score of 213 in their allotted 20 overs.

Ireland was never in the game from the outset. They kept losing wickets at regular intervals. Umesh Yadav provided the maiden breakthrough in the form of Paul Stirling’s wicket. Siddarth Kaul also bowled very well bagging his maiden international wicket. There was no way back for Ireland after the loss of those early wickets.

The spin duo of Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzevndra Chahal was quite magnificent and finished with six wickets between each other. They again spun a web around them, and they fell to their prey yet again. Both Kuldeep and Chahal chipped in with three wickets each. Meanwhile, Umesh Yadav in his comeback match also scalped out a couple.

Here is what losing skipper Gary Wilson said at the post-match presentation,

“Disappointed with not putting up a fight with the bat. We know India are good at chasing, and the wicket wouldn’t have played differently whether we had batted first or bowled first. PLenty of lessons, looking at the way they go about their game. They’re some of the best players in the IPL.”
