Is Sunil Gavaskar's Comment Misinterpreted? Watch The Incident As Ex-India Skipper Faces Heat

Former India captain Sunil Gavaskar was recently slammed by Anushka Sharma as well as several cricket fans for his on-air comment about her and her husband Virat Kohli. His comments came during the match between Royal Challengers Bangalore and Kings XI Punjab on Thursday.

Several fans took to Twitter to take shots at the batting legend, saying that his comments were ‘sexist’ and personal. And on Friday, Anushka Sharma also took to Twitter to slam Sunil Gavaskar for his ‘distasteful’ comments while also asking him to explain his words.

But perhaps the entire episode was blown out of the proportion by the fans. A second look at the incident is more or less enough to show that Sunil Gavaskar’s comments were misinterpreted. His exact words were:

“Lockdown tha to sirf Anushka ki bowling ki practice ki unhone, wo video dekhi hai, us sey to kuch nahi hona hai” which roughly translates to – “During the lockdown he practised only Anushka’s bowling, I had seen in a video. But that is not going to be enough.”

Sunil Gavaskar: Jo Practice jarurat hoti hai, wo unko karne ka mauka hi nahi mila, Aur wo bade..chahte ki jitni wo practice kare utni wo..usi se to wo behtar ban sakte hai, wo khud jaante hai.

Sunil Gavaskar: Ab jo lockdown tha to sirf Anushka ki bowling ki practice ki unhone, wo dikhai…wo video dekhi hai..Us se to kuch nahi banna hai..

Aakash Chopra: Haan wo unke apartment me practice kar rahe the, itni bhi privacy nahi hai, saath wale building se uska bhi video le liya.

Sunil Gavaskar was perhaps referring to the viral video in which Virat Kohli could be seen playing cricket with his wife in his house. Even his fellow commentator Aakash Chopra talked about the same.

As far as the game is concerned, RCB suffered a crushing 97-run defeat at the hands of KXIP. Chasing an improbable 207, the Kohli-led side were all out for just 109 in 17 overs. KL Rahul starred with the bat, scoring an unbeaten 132 off just 69 balls to power his team to 206 for 3.
