India U-19 pacer, Ishan Porel, is likely to miss the ongoing season of Vijay Hazare Trophy, a report in PTI suggests.

He has been troubled by an issue in his left leg right from the start of the World Cup, which continued till the last game of the tournament.

In fact, the injury put him on the cusp of being ruled out of the tournament when the team management decided to call-in Aditya Thakare as his backup. Porel got fit soon but did not play a couple of games as a precautionary measure.

He made his comeback in the quarter-final contest against Bangladesh but showed his prowess against Pakistan, where he scalped first four wickets of Pakistan’s innings to flatten them in the chase to a total of 273. In the end, Pakistan was bowled out for just 69 runs.

In the final too, Porel delivered the first two wickets to give India wickets in the first ten overs. Australia scored 216 runs, which the Indian team chased down successfully to lift the U19 World Cup for the fourth time in the history.

Porel’s injury took a backseat during his heroics in the tournament but now, he might miss the event, as has also been advised by his childhood coach.

The injury takes about three weeks to recover, and if Porel sits out for three weeks, he will just not miss the Vijay Hazare Trophy, but his chances of making it to the Deodhar Trophy side might also get affected, as the team gets selected on the basis of performance in the Vijay Hazare Trophy.

Though he can play for Bengal if the win the tournament.

Since he has not received an IPL contract, he might have to start afresh from the next domestic season if he misses the rest of the season.

Porel will look to recover well in time and at least play a few games for Bengal. The pair of Kamlesh Nagarkoti and Shivan Mavi grabbed highlights during the junior World Cup, but Porel too did his job well in the four games he played.

He has also played three first-class games till now where he has impressed with 13 wickets. He was also allowed by the U19 team management to play Ranji Trophy, along with Prithvi Shaw, even when the camp of U19 cricket was on, which tells he is a player to the look for in the future.

Meanwhile, Bengal lost their first game of the season, as they failed to defend a big total of 293 against Maharashtra.

They will face Kerala in their next contest of the tournament.
