The Indian pace bowling unit is one of the biggest strengths based on which they have been able to maintain their number one Test ranking for a while now. From Anil Kumble, Harbhajan Singh to Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja, the men in blues have traditionally been known for producing world-class spinners. While the nation has produced fast bowlers, the dominance of the present set of pacers has reached a whole new level. After outstanding bowling performances in South Africa, England, and Australia in the previous year, they proved equally effective in the Windies.

The fast-bowling unit managed to slay the Proteas initially in their home season post which they handed Bangladesh a hammering, including winning their first-ever day and night Test. Mohammed Shami, Ishant Sharma, and Umesh Yadav were able to pick all the 19 wickets that fell in the pink-ball as India wrapped up the Test series by 2-0.

The former Karanataka batsman conveyed his delightfulness by saying that the present crop of bowlers are, in a way becoming an idol for the upcoming generations. Rahul Dravid believes that the current pack of pacers are the best they have ever had despite having bowlers like Kapil Dev, Javagal Shrinath, and Zaheer Khan in the past.

“What Ishant, Shami, Umesh, Bhuvneshwar (Kumar) and Bumrah are doing is they are actually in a way becoming role models for a younger generation of boys, who believe now they can be successful as fast bowlers in India. I think it is great to see.” Dravid was quoted as saying by The Hindu.

“Obviously we had people like Kapil Dev, Javagal Srinath, Zaheer Khan in the past. But now, as a group, probably this is one of the best fast bowling attacks we have ever had. I think that’s a great inspiration for a lot of these young boys,” the 46-year old added further.

Rahul Dravid hails the upcoming generation as well:

The former India skipper Rahul Dravid didn’t hold back in praising the pacers at the junior level and said that the 2018 U19 World Cup had some fast bowlers who have been rapidly rising through the ranks. He spoke highly of Shivam Mavi, Kamlesh Nagarkoti, and Ishan Porel, who have been making the right noises in domestic cricket.

“Now, at the under-19 level, we have very good fast bowlers. Last time (during the 2018 under-19 World Cup), we had three of them — Kamlesh (Nagarkoti), Shivam (Mavi) and Ishan (Porel). This year, you will also see some good fast bowlers in the team. That’s been fantastic. I think when you have role models and you have heroes like the senior team (it’s encouraging)…” Dravid concluded.
