Even before the Indian Premier League (IPL) has begun, franchises are fearing their players being injured because of a very tight schedule in international cricket. Delhi Capitals’ fear of missing out on a key player has come true as Indian pacer Ishant Sharma is highly-likely going to miss the initial stage of this year’s IPL due to an injury sustained during the ongoing India-New Zealand Test series.
Ishant is now in the later stage of his career and is more prone to injury than ever before. His problems began in January when he injured his ankle while playing for Delhi against Vidarbha in the ongoing Ranji Trophy.
This ruled him out of the New Zealand series. However, he made an incredible comeback and cleared the fitness test to join the Test team.
The lanky paceman portrayed his brilliant best in the first Test as he clinched another five-for of his Test career.
Unfortunately, before the second Test began, he suffered from the recurrence of the ankle injury.
Ishant Sharma Could Miss IPL 2020 Initially:
Now, Capitals might miss the services of Ishant for the first few matches following another ankle injury to the pacer on the New Zealand tour.
A report in PTI suggests that Ishant could miss the first part of the league if he undergoes rehabilitation at NCA.
Shreyas Iyer-led Capitals will play their first match against Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) on March 30. His absence will come as a big blow to the franchise but the team management would want a fit Ishant so as he can play the full season.
It is notable that the BCCI is yet to provide details about Ishant’s ankle but the board is expected to come out with an official word soon.
Since India do not play a Test match before December, Ishant will have to wait for a long time for the 98th Test. He is likely to play his 100th Test during the Australia series later this year.
