India’s veteran pacer Ishant Sharma has come out in defence of Jasprit Bumrah after his wicketless run continues in the ongoing New Zealand tour. Bumrah, who’s featuring in New Zealand Test, has failed to bag a wicket so far.
So far in the ongoing Wellington Test, Bumrah, who has been economical, sent down 18.1 overs while giving away 62 runs. He has also bowled four maiden overs.
India’s seniormost player Ishant finds it funny that people are questioning Bumrah’s ability just after a few matches, ignoring his performances over the past two years.

The veteran of 97 Test matches joined his pace partner Mohammed Shami in responding to those who have been critical of Bumrah’s barren run that started during the ODI leg of the New Zealand tour.
Ishant finished off with a great spell on Day 2 of the first Test of the two-match Test series. He clinched three of the five Kiwi wickets and helped India stay in the game despite the visitors performing poorly with the bat.
At day two stumps, New Zealand gained a lead of 51 runs after posting 216 for five on the scoreboard.
Ishant Sharma Defends Jasprit Bumrah’s Run of Form
“It’s funny that perceptions changed after one innings. For two years, we have always taken 20 wickets, myself, Boom (Bumrah’s nickname in the Indian dressing room) and Shami along with Ash or Jaddu (at home). How can people question on the basis of one innings (Test)?,” Ishant mentioned.
He added that Bumrah has had an inevitable contribution in team India’s uprise since his debut and no one should question his abilities.
“I don’t think anyone doubts Boom’s ability. Since his debut, what he has achieved for India, I don’t think anyone should raise any questions,” said Ishant.
Speedster Bumrah is currently having a poor run in international cricket. Considered to be the deadliest fast bowler in recent times, Bumrah has gone under the radar for his recent performances, especially the ODI series against New Zealand.
Bumrah went wicketless in a bilateral ODI series for the first time in his international career since making a debut for team India in the 50-over format.
This, is in itself, enough to fathom what kind of run of form Jasprit Bumrah is having in international cricket.
