Pakistan was recently whitewashed 5-0 by New Zealand in the One-day International series.

Batting failures were primarily the biggest reasons behind the humiliating defeats, and if the reigning Champions Trophy holders are looking for a new batsman who can provide the batting lineup with the much-needed solidarity, then they can consider Islamabad batsman Abid Ali.

The 30-year old has stormed into the record books after making the highest List A score by a Pakistan batsman in history. The right-handed batsman, on Tuesday (February 6) scored an unbeaten 209 against Peshawar in the ongoing National One Day Cup. His stunning knock came off just 156 balls and was studded with 24 boundaries and five sixes.

The wicketkeeper-batsman, who has been playing domestic cricket since 2005, had scored just one one-day century before the historic double ton.

Riding on Ali’s knock, Islamabad posted a massive 374 for the loss of just one wicket in the allotted 50 overs. In reply, Peshawar was bowled out for a modest 141 in 38 overs.

The knock made Ali only the fourth Pakistan batsman to hit a double century in the 50-over format out of which two have been played this year. On January 3, discarded wicketkeeper-batsman Kamran Akmal had scored exactly 200 for WAPDA against HBL.

Meanwhile, the record of the highest individual score in Pakistan List A games was held by Mohammad Ali who had scored 207 for Customs against DHA in 2005.

England’s Ali Brown holds a record of the highest-ever score in List A cricket. Brown had scored an unbelievable 268 against Glamorgan while playing for Surrey in 2002. India’s Rohit Sharma holds the record of highest individual score in One-Day Internationals for his monumental 264-run knock against Sri Lanka in 2014.
