Well, it was a tough loss to take for the Pakistan Cricket Team. They were outsmarted by the Sri Lankan team in their own conditions even without a fight on the display. Meanwhile, the head coach-cum-chief selector Misbah-Ul-Haq feels there is something wrong in the Pakistan system itself.
Pakistan’s head coach Misbah-ul-Haq said the 0-3 Twenty20 International series loss to second-string Sri Lanka has opened his eyes to the fact that there is something seriously wrong with the country’s cricket system. Further, he highlighted the fact that there not enough talent in the domestic circuit as well.
An eye-opener for the team – Misbah-Ul-Haq
Misbah-ul-Haq, speaking with the reporters, raised a few key points stating that how can they term themselves as the number 1 side when they can’t beat a second-string side. He sees there is a requirement of change in the system of operations in Pakistan cricket.
Misbah feels that they were completely outsmarted by the Sri Lanka team in all departments of the game. He also defended Sarfaraz Ahmed stating that there is not even a single player, who was up for the fight during the entire series.
“This series has been an eye-opener for us and everyone else. These same players have been around for a while now. More or less, the same team which made us number one and has been playing together for around three to four years now. The result of the series is also an eye-opener for our system as well. If we can lose to a side without its main players, how did we think we were number one?” he said.
“Yes, only the wicketkeeper is not playing well, the rest of the 10 players are doing so well,” he replied.
Our youngsters face Pacers well:
Misbah-ul-Haq also highlighted the importance of senior players like Mohammad Hafeez and Shoaib Malik, who can play the spinners well compared to the young players. The head coach feels that the youngsters are capable of playing fast bowling but to tackle the spin department, he feels the batsman requires experience and skills.
“Yes, it is an eye-opener for us and should also be one for you [media] as well. You need to think now before writing they are finished without considering their past performances. Shoaib Malik and Muhammad Hafeez are our most seasoned players and play spin very well. Our youngsters face pace very well but face problems against spinners, wrist spinners.”
All in all, it was a tough loss for Pakistan to swallow. In the next assignment, they will take on Australia in the 3-match T20I series in Australia followed by the 2-match Test series, which will be the part of ICC World Test Championship.
