An incredible tournament ended on a bitter note for team India at the U19 World Cup. With the favorites tag on the defending champions, Priyam Garg’s side was expected to fire through all cylinders and set an example like their predecessors. But the Bangladesh colts had other plans.

The Tigers put India on the mat and triggered a collapse that saw the boys in blue lose seven wickets for mere 21 runs. Opener Yashasvi Jaiswal was once again at his best. The southpaw found the ropes on nine occasions including a biggie and went on to score 88. For the Tigers, Avishek Das bagged three wickets to derail India’s run.
Priyam Garg lauds his boys after a bitter defeat
Garg, who led the Indian side with much composure and intent, lauded his boys post the defeat. He mentioned the low total of 177 as the reason for the fall. The skipper said anything around 220 would have been a competitive score in a finale but the side fell short by a massive 50-60 runs.

“It’s a bad day, but our boys fought really well. Even with such a low total, we made it difficult for them, and I would like to thank my team for that. The biggest factor was the toss, because the wicket was a bit damp. We had a good start, and we should have got to at least 210-220. That would have been a much better score.
India conceded 33 extras and it hurt them bad. Garg, though, shrugged it off said that there was no other way to try and defend a partly total as such. Spinner Ravi Bishnoi scalped four wickets and almost got the opposition in a tangle but it was just not enough at the end.
On the bowling, Garg said ” I don’t think we could have done much different. For 178, we responded really well, and we lost this because we didn’t bat well enough. That’s about it. We enjoyed the World Cup. We played a series here too, and this was enjoyable too.” Garg mentioned after the 3-wicket loss.
