Shane Warne, the former Australian great, is impressed by the performances the leg-spinners are putting in T20 cricket, in particular the IPL. Rajasthan Royals may have lost their game against the Sunrisers Hyderabad on Thursday, but this hasn’t refrained Warne from praising the leg-spinners of his team and others as well.

Shane Warne led the Rajasthan Royals to their maiden title in the inaugural season in 2008. However, the Royals have failed to clinch the trophy since. Warne, who played 55 IPL matches for Rajasthan, see delighted to see the emergence of leg-spin as a potent threat in the shortest format of the game.

Arguably the greatest spinner to play the game, Shane Warne in a chat with Indranil Basu on Sportskeeda’s Facebook page, powered by the Rajasthan Royals and Lifebuoy, said he is happy to see the abundance of high-quality spinners perform well in T20 cricket.

With white-ball cricket so much aligned towards the batsman, The 51-year-old says it’s great to see leg-spinners as a weapon in the IPL. The former Australian also thinks that 9 out of the top 10 bowlers in cricket currently, are spin bowlers.

Warne said, “I think it’s fantastic to see so many wonderful spin bowlers in T20 cricket and in the IPL. I think when T20 cricket started, people thought it was the end of the spin bowlers. But, we’re seeing them being so successful.

“I think the top 10 bowlers in cricket at the moment, nine of them are spinners, mainly leg-spinners. So, it’s great to see leg-spin bowling being a weapon in T20 cricket and so many wonderful leg-spinners in the IPL at the moment too!”

Warne, who has been with the Royals since 2008 as a captain and then he played the role of a mentor, says they are lucky to have some brilliant leg-spinners like Shreyas Gopal and Rahul Tewatia in his side. Rajasthan also has Riyan Parag and Mayank Markhande in their side.

Yashasvi Jaiswal and Steve Smith can also bowl some part-time leg-spin. Warner also talked about the effect of Rashid Khan and Yuzvendra Chahal in the middle overs.

“We’re very lucky that we’ve got SG (Shreyas Gopal) and Tewatia in our team, playing at the moment. Rashid Khan’s obviously a threat. He’s a fantastic bowler in this form of the game. The same. Chahal for RCB is doing a good job and there are so many others that are doing well in the IPL”, he added.

Meanwhile, Rajasthan after losing to Hyderabad by eight wickets slip to the seventh position on the points table. They will face the defending champions, Mumbai Indians on Sunday in Abu Dhabi.
