It indeed has been a challenging time for someone like Rohit Sharma, who has not played any cricket for more than four months now. The suspension and postponement of various cricketing events around the globe have erupted frustrations amongst not only the fans but also the players. Rohit Sharma, who spoke to ESPN Cricinfo, stated that it is the longest since he has not held a bat.

Rohit Sharma is arguably one of the sweetest strikers of the ball, having taken his game to a whole new level after batting at the top-order. 2019 was a stellar year for the 33-year old as he finished as the top run-getter in ODI cricket with 1470 runs.

Additionally, the right-handed batsman topped the run-scoring charts in the 2019 World Cup with 648 runs while also striking five tons. Hence, it is evident how much he loves spending time in the crease.

Rohit Sharma, who will return to the field for the upcoming season of the IPL in the UAE, asserted that it would be challenging to pick up the bat after so long. Due to the lockdown and no cricket, India’s limited-overs vice-captain pointed out that he feels physically strong; however, he would not know where his body is unless he plays. Rohit played only in the T20I series in the tour of New Zealand in January while missing the ODIs and Tests due to a calf-injury.

It’s the longest gap that I have ever had in my career without holding a bat. It will be a bit challenging. Unless I play, I will not know where I am and how I feel but the body is completely fine. I feel physically more strong than ever because of the last four months,” the Nagpur-born cricketer stated.

The Mumbai Indians skipper continued by saying that he would not rush in getting himself on the field and instead take it steadily. The temperature in all parts of the UAE, which hovers at around 40 degrees Celcius is the reason why Rohit Sharma emphasized that playing will not be easy.

We have a lot of time in our hands… I will be taking it slow. Luckily, I don’t think there is any rush that I need to show. We have enough time. I will work on getting back to the ground slowly because the temperature in Dubai is 40 degrees. It’s not easy,” he added.
