Jamaica Tallawahs Replace Adam Zampa With Ish Sodhi

Jamaica Tallawahs have roped in Ish Sodhi to replace Adam Zampa for the remainder of the ongoing Caribbean Premier League season.  Zampa is returning to Australia to take part in domestic cricket.

The Australian spinner did well with the ball in this season although he was a bit expensive. In 9 games, he picked up as many wickets but conceded almost 10 runs per over. Zampa, nonetheless, helped Tallawahs to make it to the playoffs.  Zampa was called up to the Jamaican franchise for the sixth edition of the Caribbean Twenty20 tournament as a last-minute replacement for Pakistan allrounder Shahid Afridi, who pulled out due to an injury.

The leg-spinner was no stranger to playing in the Caribbeans. He had made a name for himself with his exploits for Guyana Amazon Warriors in 2016. The 26-year-old had grabbed 15 wickets in 12 matches at an economy rate of 7.07, including two three-wicket hauls.

Meanwhile, Zampa’s replacement Sodhi is an experienced campaigner in the shortest format of the game. Having made his T20 debut in 2013, he has played for Rajasthan Royals, Northern Districts, Nottinghamshire and Adelaide Strikers in various T20 competitions. So far, he has bagged 126 scalps at 23.26 in the shortest format of the game.

The leg-spinner has played 26 T20 Internationals for New Zealand, claiming 36 wickets at an average of 19.33. Sodhi also spent some time as the number one ranked spinner in T20 Internationals.

Sodhi recently impressed for Nottinghamshire in the Vitality T20 Blast. He picked up 19 wickets in 15 games with the best figures of 4 for 17.

Tallawahs are currently third in the points table with 5 wins in 9 games. They have as many points as the top two teams but have played two games more.  The final of this year’s competition will be played at the Brian Lara Stadium in Trinidad on September 16.
