James Anderson is in the twilight zone of his career and set his sight on retirement after the Ashes. England’s leading Test wicket-taker James Anderson has done a world for good for his team and inspired generations with his ability to swing the ball both way. At present he is on national duty against the West Indies in the Southampton Test.

Anderson has been lethal for England over the years, especially with his ability to swing the ball under overcast conditions. For his brilliant bowling prowess, even cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar rates him highly and believes he is one of the finest ambassadors of the reverse swing.

Tendulkar explained how Anderson releases the ball and leaves a batsmen confused with his unique technique. He also said that the Englishman has the ability to deceive a batsman with his wrist position which does not helps them judge his delivery. Adding to that, Tendulkar also mentioned that even his new ball partner Stuart Broad has similar technique, but Anderson has been doing it for a longer period of time.

“What I experienced over a period of time that he would hold the bowl as if he is bowling an outswinger but the release point, he would try and bring the ball back in. The number of batters would look at the wrist position and what he has actually done, he has shown you that he is bowling an inswinger but the imbalance between both sides of the ball will take the ball away from you,” the former batsman said.

“But what he has done, he has got you to commit to play for an outswinger and the ball after covering almost 3/4th of the length of the pitch starts leaving you. And that is something which was new to me,” he further added.

“Nobody had done that, now I have spotted even Stuart Broad doing that. But Anderson started this long time ago. So, I rate him very, very high and he is one of the best exponents of the reverse swing,” Tendulkar added.

Anderson picked up the wicket of opener John Campbell on Day 2 of the Southampton Test as the West Indies trail by 147 runs against England.
